    Time Event
    6:23p
I had to write this for Gov't - Maybe I'll make it a weekly regular.
The Death with Dignity Act, an act which allows the euthanizing of patients with terminal illnesses that are residents of the state of Oregon, was upheld by a 6-3 vote by the Supreme Court on January 17th. The DWDA allows a terminally ill patient to request that their doctor prescribe a lethal dose of medication in order to allow them to die with "dignity" instead of wasting away to the point of dependency. Other states are currently discussing making an act similar to the DWDA a part of their legislation. Those in support of the decision argue that it is a patient and citizen's constitutional right to be able to die with this "dignity" because it falls under the "pursuit of happiness."

I find it very difficult to reconcile any kind of euthanizing of humans with Scripture, but I find it almost as difficult to find a reason that an atheist or agnostic would easily accept. I know that life is precious and that euthanasia is as much murder as shooting a man in cold blood. However, I see so many people that are so entrenched in their belief that euthanasia is dignified that I do not see any way short of an act of God to turn them from their beliefs. Besides, who am I to tell someone what is and what is not right? That would be judging (and, obviously, I am being facetious to illustrate a point). Until the nation returns to a belief in an absolute truth, we will struggle with such issues as this. The God of America, the faceless, mindless, being that has been created at the expense of not only the True God but also His Son, cannot save us from the atrocities that will be committed under the DWDA and other decisions by our government.
